The Hot Gates
Thermopylae is a narrow coastal passage about 15 km from the city of Lamia. This place became famous for the battle of Thermopylae, where a small Spartan force of only 300 men, commanded by King Leonidas, managed to stop for a few days the advance of the Persian king Xerxes. Since then the term Thermopylae is used to indicate a heroic resistance against a powerful enemy. Today you can admire the statue of Spartan king, or enjoy the natural centre of hydrotherapy. You can relax in the healing thermal waters, the oldest in Greece, at a constant temperature of 40 degrees.
